MY CAPE WRATH ULTRA (CWU) 2018 EXPERIENCE
Going from fun weekly training runs with Peninsula Trail Runners to an 8 day 400km race (with over 11,200m of elevation) through the rugged Scottish Highlands was a big step up for me and I felt both excited & slightly terrified (ok a lot terrified) by the prospect. The chance of failure was high. Having grown up in Scotland I knew that traversing rough exposed mountainous terrain (Fort William to Cape Wrath, the most north westerly point on the British mainland) in potential

Member Profile-Kelly
What an inspirational lady. 1. Name or Nickname: Kelly 2. When did you start running and why?
I started running to escape physical and emotional violence in 2009. The time out of the house was time I could focus on myself and it helped me to realise I was strong and capable of doing anything I set my mind to. Due to injury, I stopped in 2012, and started up again properly in 2015. Running has helped me overcome a lot of grief, and given me drive. Since then, I've ran 9 marat

Our first Ultra - UTA
To tell the truth it didn't start great. Darren had been injured for about a month before with his knee and calf and about 10 days before UTA I got a baker cyst on the back of my knee which cause a build up of fluid on the front part of the knee which makes it very stiff, not great for running but we were doing it anyway . Darren started off strong but at the 17km mark decided to wait for me as he knew I wasn't doing so good. I have to say that I have never see as many steps

Member Profile- Andrew
Andrew organizes weekend runs with some amazing photos, and most likely to include cake or a good bbq at the end. 1. Name or Nickname : Andrew or Andy 2. When did you start running and why?
About 2 years ago when Sharon and Maureen told me about how good trail running was. At the time I’d just lost 17kg [because I was fed up of getting rolled back into the water by Greenpeace after having a surf.] 3. What do you love most about running?
1st - The great company on the runs

The Seagull did DU135- it chewed him up and spat him out, but would he do it again- HELL YEAH!
PTR founder and president Johnny ‘The Seagull’ Horrocks had a Big Hairy Audacious Goal of doing a 100 miler before turning 50, and he chose to do it whilst competing in DU135 (April 6,7,8 2018)- one of the Southern Hemisphere’s gnarliest single stage non stop foot races across single trails of the Lerderderg and Wombat State Forests in Victoria. Team Seagull supported him throughout the event, and looked on in awe and admiration as he kept going, despite the pain*, exhaustion
