Introducing The Trail Running Series presented by The North Face youth ambassador Gene McGoldrick. Gene’s been busy building a reputation in the trail running community with some impressive results and an attitude to match. When he’s not at a race, or studying at school, you’ll find him out on the trails with the Peninsula Trail Runners and getting amongst the action of the local car meets and classic car shows.

Hailing from the bayside suburb of Seaford Gene is stoked to be on board as our brand new youth ambassador – to inspire the next generation of trail runners.

How did you first get into trail running and racing?

I started running in 2014 when I entered the 10km event at the Seaford wetlands fun run with my Mum. Since then my passion for running has continued to grow and I have taken part in the Trail Running Series 2015 (medium course) and 2016 (long course), After Glow 2015 12km, Surf Coast Century 2016 (first leg, 21km), Kilcunda Coastal Run 2016 (18km), Rollercoaster 2017 (10km) and Run the Rock (10km). What is it about this sport that got you hooked?

I love trail running because I get to run in amazing locations, explore new trails and have fun with other trail runners. The atmosphere and encouragement at trail running events is really awesome. I love running with my local Running Club the Peninsula Trail Runners.

What are your running goals?

This year my goal is to complete 27km for the third leg of the Surf Coast Century. What are you looking forward to about The Trail Running Series presented by The North Face? I'm really looking forward to running at the two new locations for event 1 and 2. Why would you recommend other young guys and girls to give trail running a go?

You get to see and experience amazing places, spend time with awesome people, keep fit and have fun!

Thank you Gene, it’s great to have you on board, we hope you have a great season!
